What permanent make-up removal is
Permanent make-up, such as microbladed or powder brows, lip blush and eyeliner, is a cosmetic tattoo. Over time it can fade unevenly, change colour or simply no longer suit you.
We use a non-laser method, lightening the pigment gradually over several sessions spaced weeks apart, so your skin can heal in between. We'll explain the product, and how it's applied, at your consultation.
There's little published research on non-laser removal. Results depend on the pigment, how deep it is and how your skin heals, and we can't promise every trace will go. Removal creams sold for home use have no evidence that they work and can burn or scar the skin, so please don't try them.
Who it’s for
Adults only
Treatment is only for adults aged 18 and over.
Often a good fit if you
- have faded, discoloured or unwanted brow, lip or eyeliner make-up
- would like old make-up lightened before a correction
- are happy to commit to a course of sessions
Not suitable, or we’ll wait, if you
- have a cold sore, for lip treatments
- have a skin infection or broken skin in the area
- tend to form raised, thickened (keloid) scars
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
Eyeliner sits close to the eye. We'll explain how we protect your eyes at your consultation.
Aftercare
Please do
- Keep the area clean, and follow your aftercare advice closely while it heals.
- Get in touch if the area becomes increasingly red, hot, swollen or painful.
| Avoid | For |
|---|---|
| Picking or scratching the area | Until healed |
| Sun on the treated area | As we advise |
| Swimming, saunas and steam rooms | As we advise |
Risks and side effects
- Common and expected
- Redness, swelling and crusting while the area heals.
- Less common
- Infection, if the area isn't kept clean, and uneven lightening, with some pigment remaining.
- Rare but serious
- Scarring. In a series of people treated for complications after acid-based tattoo removal, all had scarring and some pigment left. This is why we assess your skin carefully first.

Your questions
Is it a laser treatment?
No. We use a non-laser method. We'll explain how it works at your consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually several, spaced weeks apart. It depends on the pigment, how deep it is and how your skin heals.
Will all the pigment come out?
We can't promise that. Results vary, and some pigment may remain.
How should I look after the area?
Keep it clean and don't pick it while it heals. Your aftercare advice will cover the details.
Can I use a removal cream at home instead?
We'd advise against it. There's no evidence that removal creams work, and their strong acids can burn and scar the skin.
Do you remove body tattoos?
No. Our removal treatments are for permanent make-up: brows, lip blush and eyeliner.
