What Plexr is
Plexr is a small handheld plasma device. It turns a tiny amount of the air between its tip and your skin into plasma, which touches the skin's surface in a pattern of tiny dots. The skin tightens, and the dots form small crusts that fall off in about a week.
It's used most on the eyelids: on upper eyelid skin that looks loose or hooded, and on the skin under the eyes.
The evidence is early. In three studies of 10 to 56 people with loose upper eyelid skin, three sessions a month apart improved how the eyelids looked, with no serious side effects reported. But the studies are small and most come from single clinics, and in one, people were less satisfied at one month than at one week.
Plexr isn't a substitute for eyelid surgery. It may suit mild to moderate cases best. If your eyelids are very heavy, see your GP first: a medical condition can affect the eyelids, and surgery may suit you better.
We don't keep a Plexr device at the clinic every day, so we book Plexr treatments for set days. We'll agree a date with you at your consultation.
| Option | What it is | Typical course | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upper eyelids | Upper eyelid skin that looks loose or hooded | Up to 3 sessions, a month apart | £399 |
| Under-eyes | Crepey-looking skin and fine lines around the eyes | Planned with you | £349 |
Who it’s for
Adults only
Treatment is only for adults aged 18 and over.
Often a good fit if you
- have upper eyelid skin that looks loose or hooded, in a mild to moderate way
- have crepey-looking skin or fine lines around your eyes
- can allow about a week for the small crusts to heal
- are happy with a modest change, and understand the evidence is early
Not suitable, or we’ll wait, if you
- have very heavy eyelids, or eyelids that droop over your eyes: see your GP first
- have a tan or sunburn
- have a cold sore or skin infection in the area
- have a history of keloid (raised, thickened) scars
- have a pacemaker or another implanted electrical device
- are pregnant
Darker patches can appear after treatment in any skin tone, including lighter ones. We'll talk through how to protect your skin before and after.
What happens on the day
-
Step 1: Consultation and skin check
We look at your eyelids and the skin around your eyes, and check whether surgery or another treatment may suit you better.
-
Step 2: Preparing your skin
Your skin is cleansed, and a numbing cream may be applied and left to work.
-
Step 3: The treatment
The tip of the device is held just above your skin and makes a pattern of tiny dots.
-
Step 4: Afterwards
The area will look swollen and dotted with small crusts. You'll get an aftercare routine to follow at home.
Recovery and results
How many sessions you need depends on your skin. Studies used up to three, a month apart, and many people have just one. We'll plan this with you at your consultation.
-
The first few days
Swelling, especially of the eyelids, is the most common effect in the first week.
-
About a week
The small crusts fall off on their own.
-
The first month
Some people have itching for a few weeks.
-
Over the following months
Studies checked the results 1 to 3 months after the last session.
Aftercare
Please do
- Let the crusts fall off on their own.
- Protect the area from the sun, and use a high-factor sunscreen every day once the crusts have gone.
- Get in touch straight away if the area becomes increasingly painful, hot or swollen, or weeps yellow fluid.
| Avoid | For |
|---|---|
| Picking or rubbing the crusts | Until healed |
| Make-up on the treated area | Until the crusts have gone |
| Retinol, acids and exfoliating products | As we advise |
| Swimming, saunas and hard exercise | As we advise |
Risks and side effects
- Common and expected
- Swelling, especially of the eyelids, redness and small crusts for about a week. Itching can last a few weeks.
- Less common
- Darker patches of skin once the crusts have fallen off. They can happen in any skin tone and may take months to fade, sometimes with further treatment.
- Rare but serious
- The studies so far report no serious side effects, but they are small. As with any treatment that breaks the skin's surface, infection and scarring are possible.
- Your skin tone
- Darker patches can follow Plexr in any skin tone. We'll go through how to protect your skin, and may suggest a different treatment.

Your questions
Is Plexr a non-surgical eyelid lift?
It can improve the look of loose upper eyelid skin in mild to moderate cases, but it isn't a substitute for surgery, and the studies are small. If your eyelids are very heavy, we may suggest you see your GP about surgery.
How much downtime is there?
Plan on about a week while the small crusts heal and fall off. Your eyelids may be swollen for the first few days.
How many sessions will I need?
Studies used up to three sessions, a month apart, and many people have just one. We'll suggest a plan at your consultation.
Does it hurt?
A numbing cream may be applied first. You may feel heat and prickling during treatment.
Can I wear make-up afterwards?
Not on the treated area until the crusts have fallen off, after about a week.
When can I book?
The device isn't at the clinic every day, so we book Plexr treatments for set days. We'll agree a date with you at your consultation.
