What skin boosters are

Skin boosters are injectable products based on hyaluronic acid. Unlike fillers, they don't add volume or change your face shape. They aim to improve the quality of your skin: how hydrated, firm and smooth it looks.

We offer eight, for the face and some for the body, and we'll recommend one at your consultation based on your skin and the area.

The evidence is encouraging but limited: most studies are small, short and open-label, and some are linked to the manufacturers. So we talk about subtle, gradual change, not lifting or reversing ageing.

Compare the options
Option What it is Typical course Price
Profhilo A blend of high and low weight hyaluronic acid that spreads under the skin, injected at 5 points on each side of the face 2 sessions, about 4 weeks apart £299
NCTF 135 HA Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid with vitamins, antioxidants, mineral salts and enzymes A series of sessions, planned with you £249
Jalupro Classic Hyaluronic acid with amino acids, made by Professional Derma Planned with you £249
Jalupro Super Hydro Hyaluronic acid with amino acids and peptides, made by Professional Derma Planned with you £349
SkinVive by Juvéderm Hyaluronic acid with a little lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, injected as tiny droplets into the skin of the cheeks. In the main US study, about 58% of people had smoother-looking cheeks a month later, against about 5% of those not yet treated 1 session, with a top-up about a month later if needed £299
Profhilo Structura A Profhilo product placed in the layer of fat at the sides of the face, for mild loss of volume there. Its first study was small, had no comparison group and was partly run by the maker 2 sessions, a month apart, in the study £999
Profhilo Body A Profhilo kit for loose-looking skin on the body, such as the arms, knees or abdomen Planned with you £349
Seventy Hyal 2000 Hyaluronic acid with a very high molecular weight (over 2,000 kDa), sold in the UK by DD Group Planned with you £179

Who it’s for

Adults only

Treatment is only for adults aged 18 and over.

Often a good fit if you

  • feel your skin looks dull, dehydrated or crepey
  • are noticing early loss of firmness
  • want subtle, natural-looking change rather than added volume

Not suitable, or we’ll wait, if you

  • have a skin infection or inflammation in the area
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • are allergic to any ingredient in the product

Not sure whether a skin booster or a filler suits you better? We'll explain the difference at your consultation.

What happens on the day

  1. Step 1: Consultation and skin check

We talk through what you'd like to change, go through your medical history and choose the product that suits your skin.

  2. Step 2: Preparing your skin

Your skin is cleansed and prepared.

  3. Step 3: The treatment

The product is injected in small amounts at set points. For Profhilo, that's 5 points on each side of the face.

  4. Step 4: Straight afterwards

You'll see small bumps where the product went in. They settle as it spreads. You'll get aftercare advice for your treatment.

Recovery and results

For Profhilo, the usual course is 2 sessions about 4 weeks apart. We'll plan yours at your consultation.

  1. The first day or two

Small bumps at the injection points, with some redness or bruising.

  2. Within 1 to 2 weeks

Any redness, swelling or bruising usually clears.

  3. Over the following weeks

Skin may gradually look more hydrated and smoother.

  4. Longer term

The effect fades over time, and maintenance isn't well established by research. We'll suggest when to come back for a top-up.

Aftercare

Please do

  • Let the small bumps settle on their own.
  • Get in touch if swelling, redness or pain gets worse after the first day or two.
Please avoid
Avoid For
Strenuous exercise Until the next day
Sun, sunbeds and tanning While swelling settles
Touching or massaging the area About 3 days, unless we advise you to

Risks and side effects

Common and expected
Small bumps at the injection points, redness and bruising, usually short-lived. In the main SkinVive study, most reactions were mild and lasted 7 days or less.
Less common
Local skin reactions that last longer. In one trial included in a safety review, 23% of people had a local skin reaction over 16 weeks, mostly minor.
Rare but serious
Infection or an allergic reaction, as with any injection. Contact us straight away if the area becomes hot, very painful or swollen.

Your questions

Will skin boosters change my face shape?

No. They aim to improve the quality of your skin, not add volume.

How many sessions will I need?

Profhilo and Profhilo Structura are usually 2 sessions about 4 weeks apart, and SkinVive 1 session with a top-up if needed. We'll plan your course for the others at your consultation.

When will I see results?

Gradually, over the weeks after your course.

What are the side effects?

Small bumps, redness or bruising at the injection points, which usually settle quickly.

Which skin booster is right for me?

It depends on your skin and the area. We'll recommend one at your consultation.

Do you have course prices?

Our prices are per session, apart from Profhilo Structura, which is priced for its usual 2 sessions. We'll confirm your plan, and what it costs in total, at your consultation, before any treatment.
